Need-based relationships often are. If there is a mutually beneficial exchange between the partners, even if asymmetrical, the relationship can be healthy. But as needs and the unwillingness to meet them change, the relationships become unstable. Shared purpose can however transcend need-based and benefit-based relationships. As mentioned before, it is important to know our own needs (as well as our passions, interests, and love languages) and the needs of our partners, to find ways to meet them in a healthy way inside or outside the relationship.
